There is no requirement to change how you operate. You remain fully independent.
To support inclusivity, the $50 annual Community Membership fee is currently waived for 364 days.

We are inviting Spiritual Community & Education Organisations, Spiritualist Churches, Reiki Healing Associations, Meditation Schools and many other groups to join us under the one banner of Spirit Australia. In mid 2025 we started the "soft launch" of Spirit Australia with established community groups right around our big and beautiful country. If we haven't already contacted you, please accept our sincere apologies for missing you first time around. It's definitely not intentional, we've just been burning the candle at both ends. Thanks for understanding. We're really glad you're here now, and we are very much looking forward to hearing from you!

IN THE BEGINNING
Spirit Australia Ltd was formally registered in 2023 as a public company limited by guarantee, governed by a national board of twelve people from across our beautiful country.
While our legal structure is new, the truth is Spirit Australia has been decades in the making, built on the integrity and support of long-standing relationships, shared values, and deep trust within Australia’s spiritual community.
After finalising our constitution, we undertook a rigorous application process with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). On 2 April 2024, we were officially recognised as qualifying for the charitable purpose (legal category) of Advancing Education.
We are particularly proud to have been recognised not as a religious organisation, but as one centred on education as a public charitable good.
To our knowledge, Spirit Australia is the first spirit-based organisation in the world to receive this recognition from a national government.
EDUCATION
Education is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that when education is delivered with clarity, integrity, and respect, it naturally builds community, raises standards, and supports excellence. All without requiring people or groups to lose their identity, history, or independence.
Spirit Australia is aligning its professional education pathway with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), setting a new benchmark in this field both nationally and internationally:

CSA Certificate – Foundations (Level 3)

ASA Advanced Certificate – Practitioner (Level 4)

DSA Diploma – Teacher (Level 5)
These pathways are designed to sit alongside established traditions, groups and communities, strengthening the field as a whole, rather than replacing what already exists.
Together, we are building something that lasts:
A connected and ethical spirit community, able to support one another, honour diversity of practice, and shine a steady grounded light into the future.
COMMUNITY
Our Nine Foundations guide our work and set Spirit Australia apart from religious doctrine-based frameworks, including the Seven Principles of the Spiritualist Churches.
We wholeheartedly respect and support the religion of Spiritualism for its service to Spirit, community worship, and long traditions of excellence in spirit communication and philosophy. At the same time, we recognise that many people today identify as Spiritual but Not Religious, and we hold genuine respect for that path as well.

Traditional Spiritualism (British / US church-based tradition):

Approximately 2 million people worldwide are connected with organised Spiritualist churches, representing a long-standing, historically significant, and ethically structured spiritual movement.

Spiritism (Kardec tradition, primarily South America):

An estimated 15 million formal adherents globally, with particularly strong cultural presence in Brazil and across Latin America, alongside many more sympathisers.

Spiritual But Not Religious (SBNR):

Around 1,000 million (one billion) people worldwide now describe themselves as spiritual without formal religious affiliation, reflecting a broad, diverse, and rapidly growing global search for meaning and personal spiritual experience.

Our intention is simple:
To highlight integrity while making spirit education as inclusive, accessible and supportive as possible, for individuals and for community groups of all kinds.
We especially champion the many ethical, skilled, and community-focused groups and individuals working quietly across Australia, whose meaningful contributions are sometimes overshadowed by commercialism, inflated claims, or inaccessible pricing models.
Spirit Australia exists to support visibility, ethical consistency, and mutual respect across the community, while honouring the uniqueness and autonomy of each group.

Why join Spirit Australia as a community group?
Community Membership connects your group to a national, education-focused, not-for-profit organisation that exists to support ethical practice, visibility, and collaboration across Australia’s spirit community. Be seen on our National Map and easily help people find you.
Will Spirit Australia tell us how to run our group?
No. Spirit Australia does not govern, manage, or direct community groups. Membership is about support and recognition, not control.
Do we have to follow a particular belief or religion?
No. Spirit Australia is non-religious. We respect Spiritualist & Spiritist traditions, and Spiritual-but-Not-Religious paths, equally.
Will we lose our identity or independence?
Absolutely not. Your group keeps its name, leadership, structure, traditions, and way of working. Aditionally, Spirit Australia is here to support and promote the wonderful work of existing collaborations between groups of Spiritualist churches, for example the VSU and the ICS. Spirit Australia exists to sit alongside, not over, community groups.
Is this about commercialisation?
No. Spirit Australia is a public charity focused on Advancing Education. There is no requirement to sell services, run paid courses, or promote commercial offerings.
Why is there a Code of Ethics & Conduct?
The Code exists to support safety, trust, and best practice across the community — not to police or punish. It reflects values many groups already live by.
Is the membership fee required?
The proposed $50 annual fee is currently waived. Groups may choose to donate, but this is entirely optional.
